Dutch John Cut Bridge
Project Description
The Dutch John Cut Bridge is a 669-foot-long and 43-foot-wide structure located east of State Route 43 and north of Ninth Avenue in Fresno County. This bridge is part of the California High-Speed Rail project and is designed to carry high-speed trains over the Dutch John Cut waterway, which connects to the Kings River.
During construction, temporary work trestles were installed across Dutch John Cut and Cole Slough to facilitate access for building the permanent precast bridge. These trestles supported large capacity cranes used to install precast concrete girders for the new railroad bridge. Upon completion of the permanent bridge, the temporary trestles were removed.
The Dutch John Cut Bridge incorporates seismic isolation devices and rail expansion joints into its design, enhancing resilience while reducing construction complexity and cost.
